The swing occupies centre stage and will obviously be a major destination for the younger members of the family. It must be secured on level ground and ideally have a soft surface, such as chipped bark, to cushion any falls. Beneath a swing, bark doesnot scuff bare and then turn into a mud bath at the first sign of rain as does, say, a lawn. Bark drains well, dries out relatively quickly and can easily be separated from the lawn by a line of ponga logs pegged into place. Either side of the swing, apair of titokis helps to integrate it within the garden as a whole but also offers the potential for anchoring a hammock once the swing has gone and the children have grown into lethargic adolescents.
