Ganion designer l.yn Eginlon was as delighted as anyone when the new Wairarapa 1 lospital opened in Masterlon in 2004. She had spent a bit of time as a patient in the old hospital and joined the protests when its closure was mooted, so the new facility was special for her.Bui there was something amiss. No funds had been allocated for landscaping. "Amazing," says Lyn, "when you realise prisons get millions for their grounds."She could see that the extensive inner courtyards of the hospital were likely to be covered in asphalt, with a few rose beds thrown in. So she talked to the board, explaining how the courtyards could be landscaped to benefit patients and staff alike.
