摘要

Trite planiceps Simon, 1899, the black-headed jumping spider, is redescribed and the distribution and biology of the species is discussed. DNA sequences from the mitochondrial gene cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) and the nuclear gene 28S ribosomal RNA are presented. An intraspecific phylogeny based on COI from T. planiceps from throughout New Zealand is presented. Paralogous copies of 28S rRNA were found in T. planiceps, which casts some doubt as to the reliability of this gene for constructing phylogenies in Salticidae and other spiders.
