The mol#173;ecule of the title compound, C16H16ClN3O3S#183;H2O, is L-shaped being bent at the S atom; the S#8212;N#8212;C#8212;C torsion angle is 132.0#8197;(3)#176;. The central part of the mol#173;ecule, C#8212;C#8212;N#8212;N#61;C, is almost linear, with the C#8212;C#8212;N#8212;N and C#8212;N#8212;N#61;C torsion angles being #8722;174.1#8197;(2) and 176.0#8197;(2)#176;, respectively. The dihedral angle between the p-toluene#173;sulfonyl ring and the S#8212;N#8212;C#8212;C(#61;O) segment is 67.5#8197;(4)#176;, while that between the two aromatic rings is 52.17#8197;(11)#176;. In the crystal, the water H atom is involved in O#8212;H#8943;O hydrogen bonds with a sulfonamide O atom and the carbonyl O atom. The water O atom is itself hydrogen bonded to both NH hydrogen atoms. These four hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of corrugated sheets lying parallel to (100). There are also weak C#8212;H#8943;O contacts present within the sheets.
