The Korean government will soon establish an organization for KoRIA. This organization for KoRIA will be under a larger organization, the “Basic Science Institute” mentioned at the beginning of this article. Once the organization for KoRIA is established, the next design process will be boosted. Since the site is decided, there will be a planning for the procurement, preparation, and infrastructure of the land. There are still many technical challenges that we need to solve for a successful construction of the accelerator and the experimental instruments. The technology for a superconducting linac to accelerate high intensity heavy ions is being developed in several places in the world. The production target for ISOL and in-flight fragmentation, the charge stripper, and the fragment separator are also challenging areas among others. We are working on these technical challenges through collaboration with other domestic institutes such as Pohang Accelerator Lab, Proton Engineering Frontier Project of KAERI, and many other National Labs and universities in Korea. Also, international collaboration is essential not only for a successful construction but also for making the best use of the facility.
