Eleven years ago, nurse scholars and attendees of the International Association for Human Caring (IAHC) had an idea. Their idea, fueled by their passion for caring and nursing, has come to fruition in their book, Caring in Nursing Classics: An Essential Resource (Smith, Turkel, & Wolf, 2013). This new book is presented as a vital resource for those in practice, education, research, or nursing administration. Copublished by Springer Publishing and the Watson Caring Science Institute (WCSI), this book serves as an important collection of the history of caring science, as a text for those studying the concept of caring, or as a resource for those using caring theory as an underpinning for their institution's model of care. Editors Smith, Turkel, and Wolf (2013), all members of the nursing caring community, carefully selected 38 book chapters or articles that exemplify the past 40 years of caring knowledge for this resource. Their collection is structured into nine different yet recognizable sections, influenced by keystone themes of the discipline. Each chapter is also introduced with an overview and commentary by one of the editors.
