摘要

With nearly 60% of American households owning at least one pet, for a combined total of 154 million cats and dogs, it's no wonder that many people consider pets to be members of their families.1 The evolving bond between humans and animals piqued the interest of a handful of veterinarians and a psychiatrist in the mid-1970s, leading to the formation of the Delta Society. Delta Society's mission is to advance human health and well-being through positive interactions with animals. This is accomplished in part by promoting awareness of the scientific knowledge base related to the human-animal bond and animal-assisted therapy (AAT), Since the Delta Society's inception, numerous studies have documented the benefits of AAT in hospitalized patients, in particular.
