Cirtes is based since 1991 in the heart of the industrial park at Saint-Die-des-Vosges. The centre has also an office in the South West of France, in Carnaux. The centre has a high-performance platform, featuring industrial-scale 3D scanning, virtual sculpting and CAD/CAM systems, as well as facilities for rapid prototyping, tooling development, manufacturing and machining shapes with five axes and 3-D measurements. Cirtes contracts out its research staff and can arrange for technology transfer to industrial producers in the field of new processes for rapid product development. The aim of Cirtes as a contract-based research structure is to undertake start-to-finish R&D projects in its key fields: rapid prototyping and tooling development using the patented Stratoconception~R and the patented Actarus~R system for monitoring machining processes.
