Editorial: the magic with patients.

Sometimes ideas just come to me about what to say in an editorial. Other times I struggle. I wrote an editorial for this issue, but it did not inspire me. It was a "page filler." Then I was providing feedback to one of my students in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program in which I teach. This feedback was an exchange based on her professional journal to me this last month. Without telling you any of the details, except those published in the course syllabus, she closed by thanking the faculty (Dr. Karren Kowalski and me) for approaching this leadership course in a way that allowed her to gain insight into herself. (If she had not said that somewhere along the way, she missed the big point of the course!) In replying to her, I said:You are welcome. As you might guess, KK (Karren Kowalski) and I really believe that it is important for leaders to see their strengths because much is expected of them. And, if we help people see their own strengths, it is easier to see the strengths of others. And, if we build the baseline from strengths versus from the weaknesses, we have greater potential. It is all about making it better for staff, so that they are freer to do their magic with patients.
