摘要

Helicobacter pylori is recognized as a pathogen in association with type-B gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer (1). The motile bacterium prefers a microaerophilic environment and is a strong urease producer, allowing it to survive in the hostile environment of the stomach. Urease and motility have been described as virulence factors. Other factors that may also contribute to the development of disease include adhesions, superoxide dismutase, catalase, cytotoxin-associated protein (CagA), and vacuolating cytotoxin (VacA) (1).
