When IBM announced the sale of its PC business to Beijing-based Lenovo, Tim Carroll found himself facing a huge job. As IBM's VP of supply chain operations, Carroll was responsible for ensuring that the information systems supporting IBM's USD10-billion, 11,500- employee PC business were transferred to Lenovo's control. He also had to ensure those systems could interact smoothly with Lenovo's systems-and he had exactly 143 days to make it all happen.
