Competition is returning to the vertically integrated rig manufacturing market. Houston-based Integrated Drilling Equipment (IDE) has assembled several rig fabrication and component manufacturing businesses into a holding company with plans to go public in 2009. In December, IDE signed an agreement to merge into New York-based Columbus Acquisition Corp., a special purpose acquisition corporation (SPAC), a legal entity to acquire operating businesses.
