I write this sitting in a hospital bed, woken early by on-going, rhythmic, animalistic, difficult breathing from the room next to mine. This is an ENT ward; the man next door had an operation yesterday and is 'in recovery'.This is a place I have been (physically and psychologically) at intermittent points since two weeks ago today, when I had surgery to reduce a large tongue haemangioma.I write this as a live record, so my intention is to capture thoughts and feelings and observations that might help readers next time they come into contact with someone who is in a similar (though I realize probably further-down-the-road) situation as the one I am currently in: as a postoperative patient whose future feels somewhat unclear.
