摘要

As a middle-income, emerging marketplace, South Africa is one of the leading destinations for top-quality care within Africa. As the nation responsible for the first heart transplant in 1967, South Africa has proven its ability to provide technologically savvy oncology practices for its inhabitants and many neighboring nations. Of the 54 countries in Africa, South Africa provides some of the most comprehensive care and has stable, reliable resources in comparison to neighboring nations. Currently, only 23 African countries are equipped with radiation therapy equipment, and 60% of all radiation therapy resources for the continent come from South Africa and Egypt. However, radiation therapy is indicated for many cancer cases throughout Africa; numerous countries see high instances of cervical and breast cancers. According to GLOBOCAN data reported by Stefan et al, top cancer incidences also include those of the esophagus, colon, rectum, lung, liver, and prostate.
