摘要

Grewia optiva and Ulmus villosa are important social forestry/agroforestry species providing fodder, fuel, fiber and small timber. Inspire of immense popularity and multiplicity of uses of these potential species, the grading of the seedlings based on morphological criterion i.e top height has not been standardized. The success of plantation requires quality stock. The stock grades have been reported to influence not only the outplanting survival but also the forest productivity for long after planting (Blair and Cech, 1974). The desirable morphological, physiological and economic traits of best seedlings may change with management objectives (South and Mexal, 1984). The importance of seedling top height in the subsequent establishment of seedlingshas been realised. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken with the objective to determine the influence of seedling top height on the outplanting survival of some social forestry species.
