Pasture legume persistence and forage quality as influenced by potassium - a review

摘要

Compared to the temperate grassland flora, wherein both, the grass and legume components are well represented and almost evenly balanced, the tropical grassland flora has very poor legume component. In the sown pastures with grass-legume mixtures, the legume population gradually declines and. finally disappears. Attempts have been made to took into the problem of legume disappearance and to find out the rear causative factor behind this phenomenon. Studies made in this direction suggest the possiblerole of soil potash in legume persistence, the lack of which causing legume disappearance. In this paper the focus has been turned on various aspects of potash application in relation to legume persistence and quality of pasture forage.
