A field experiment was conducted at National Pulses Research Centre farm, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu to identify the best microbial inoculant for three forage grasses viz Andropogon gayanus, Pennisetum polystachion and Cenchrus setigerus, suited to drylands. The study revealed that dual inoculation with Azospirillum and Phosphobacteria registered 2.6 times higher fodder yield in Pennisetum polystachion and 3.7 times higher fodder yield in Andropogon gayanus, compared to no inoculation, while single inoculation with Azospirillum increased fodder productivity by 2.25 times in Cenchrus setigerus.
