Effect of fruit tree species and their spacing on wheat yield under different rows

Field studies were initiated at National Research Centre for Agroforestry Jhansi during 1988-89 on agri-silvi-horticultural system with treatment comprising 3 fruit tree spacing (main plot), 4 fruit tree species (sub plot) and 4 crop rotations (sub sub plot) in a replicated split plot design. A common treatment of silvi component (Leucaena leucocephala) was also introduced during 1989-90. In the present paper effect of fruit tree species and their spacing on the yield of wheat sown as intercrop from1990-91 to 1993-94 under the first, third and fifth rows are reported. The results revealed that with increasing spacing of the fruit trees yield of wheat increased irrespective of the rows. Among the fruit tree species minimum grain yield was registered from the interspaces of ber (Zizyphus mauritiana) irrespective of the rows. No definite trend was recorded among the fruit tree species for maximum grain yield of wheat irrespective of rows.
