The 2013 international symposium on adsorption nanoscience and nanotechnology (13'ANST) organized by National Natural Science Foundation of China was held in Zhangzhou, Fujian, China, October 20-23,2013. The welcome address was given by the conference chair Dr. Yousheng Tao who is a professor of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The conference keynote speaker was Professor Katsumi Kaneko, Research Center for Exotic Nanocarbons, Shinshu University, Japan. Professor K. Kaneko gave a very interesting talk entitled "In-Pore Intensive Potential-Aided Science for Sustainable Technology". The 13'ANST aimed to provide a successive forum for scientists to exchange ideas and state-of-the-art research and development in the emerging fields of adsorption nanoscience and nanotechnology. This conference covered a range of interdisciplinary and current research topics including fundamental of adsorption nanosciences and nanotechnology, synthesis and characterization of nanoporous materials, energy storage-related adsorption nanoscience and nanotechnology, adsorption for environmental protection, nanocarbon adsorption science and technology. It was attended by just over 60 participants. Technicians from world famous adsorption instrument companies such as Quantachrome Instruments, BEL (DKSH) and Micromeritics Instrument also came and presented the recent progresses on the adsorption scientific instruments.
