The Coradia Lirex regional train for Stockholm (Fig. 1) has now got off to a successful start in Sweden. The pluggable connectors from Pfisterer have turned out to be a highly reliable additional component, worthy of accompanying the innovative vehicle concept from Alstom LHB. Innovations begin when people have the guts to try out new directions. Such a step in a direction clearly pointing to the future of railway technology was taken by Alstom LHB, as a system supplier, with the development of a whole new platform of fast multiple units. This modern train concept opens up a new rail-travel dimension for passengers. The Coradia Lirex is the first train in its category that has low floors over virtually the whole of its length and, furthermore, has no steps at all. Even people with only limited mobility can board the train and alight from it comfortably, quickly and, above all, safely.
