摘要

Epigenetic mechanisms index the genomic information for specifying the functional cell types of the body. Important chro-matin regulatory complexes include the Polycomb group (PcG) proteins which are widely implicated in epigenetic regulation of development. Initially characterized in the fruit fly, PcG proteins act to maintain repression of genes that are inappropriate for expression in a given lineage. Targets of PcG regulation include the Hox clusters, cell cycle regulators and transcription factors. PcG proteins form complexes which have catalytic activity towards chromatin.1 Two well characterized complexes have been shown to contain histone modifying activity. Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) is of a heterogeneous biochemical composition and contains the RinglA or RinglB proteins that monoubiquitinylate histone H2A on lysine 119.
