摘要

Pura was previously described as a nucleic acid-binding factor with DNA unwinding properties.6 The recent finding described by Kaminski et al. has provided a brand new perspective on the biological functions of Pura, which is now emerging as a multi-functional factor in cellular and molecular biology. Undoubtedly, the demonstration of a physical association between Pura and TFIIH has provided a useful insight into the study of NER mechanism.' Another study has reported that an enhanced NER activity is linked to cisplatin resistance in non-small cell lung cancer.7 In this respect, Pura was able to confer cisplatin resistance to malignant cells as well,8 which further supports the finding that Pura is one of the key players in the NER pathway. However, these findings, taken together, indicate that the NER system may be considered a double-edged sword.
