摘要

Post-translational modifications provide means to transmit various regulatory signals to proteins. The modifications usually induce conformational changes, which can influence protein stability, enzymatic activity, intracellular localization and interaction with other proteins or DNA.Protein structure and function are often regulated by more than one modification at different amino acids. The most intensely studied proteins, which are modified simultaneously at multiple amino acid residues, are histones.
