Remarkable progress has been made in elucidating the components of the Drosophila Hippo pathway in the past few years, resulting in a better understanding of how this pathway regulates growth during development. The core components of the Hippo pathway are well conserved, and have been shown to similarly regulate growth as well as contact inhibition in mammals. However, numerous studies have revealed that additional cellular and signaling processes have been adopted by this pathway to achieve further regulation and diversified cellular outcomes (particularly in tumor suppression) in mammals.
