This experiment was conducted in three locations representing three agro-climatic zones of Telangana state involving 28 cross combinations generated by mating eight parents by diallel fashion as per Griffing's Method II (excluding reciprocals) to knowthe association among grain yield, its attributes, protein content and kernel characters as well as the direct and indirect contribution of these characters in grain yield. This study revealed that the attributes viz., number of productive tillers per plant, plant height, kernel breadth and kernel length possessed both positive association and high positive direct effects in grain yield suggesting that selection of these traits will be useful for the improvement of grain yield. However, protein contentshowed significant negative association along with negative direct effect on grain yield.
