摘要

Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are a heterogeneous group of rare malignant tumors predominantly arising from the embryonic mesoderm. Surgery is the main treatment for early stage STS in adult patients. During the last decades, advances concerned the local control of disease and limb preservation with more conservative surgeries combined with adjuvant radiotherapy. But up to 50% of patients develop distant metastases during the course of their disease, to which they succumb in most cases. No significant progress has been observed regarding metastasis-free and overall survivals, and the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy, based on an anthracycline/ifosfamide combination, remains limited,1 making its use controversial.
