This paper describes a method based on ultrasonic attenuation for measuring the number of trapped bubbles in a neutron irradiated bubble damage detector. The capabilities and limitations of the ultrasonic technique are investigated by studying the attenuation of ultrasound by trapped bubbles in the bubble damage detector. Experiments indicate that it would be possible to obtain correlation between neutron dose and the measured ultrasonic attenuation which depends upon the population density of trapped bubbles. The effect of bubble nucleation rate on ultrasonic attenuation is investigated. The paper also presents the results obtained using ultrasonic probes of various frequencies.
