Imminent legislation on the use of heavy metals inautomobiles has resulted in replacement of terne coated steelwith plastic. To counter this threat from the plastics industry andincrease the automotive market for coated steel fuel tanks, anintensive investigation into alternative coated steels has beenundertaken. This paper reports the findings of this programmeand recommends the material with optimum performance for fuel tank operations.
