Most readers are familiar with the many blue minerals highlighted in this issue of Rocks & Minerals. Some rocks are also blue, due to an abundance of blue minerals. But blue lava-is that possible? A very unusual phenomenon is currently in play on Indonesia's Kawah Ijen volcano: the eruption of blue lava (see figure; by the way, there has been no digital enhancement or change in the image colors).
