This study documents the baseline geochemistry of sediments in portions of the Eastern Niger Delta, focussing on the distribution of selected heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cd, Cr, As and Ni). Concentration levels of metals were determined through Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) and results interpreted with statistical techniques. Interrelations between parameters reveal a control by three dominant geogenic factors. The study shows that heavy metal geochemistry of sediments is related to regional and local geology with minor imprints of anthropogenic activities.
