"We're not against technology." That statement from state Sen. Rob Mayer (R-25th District) summed up one of several points of view voiced at a Friday evening meeting of the Missouri Rice Research and Merchandising Council. The meeting, at the Eagles Aerie on Highway 25 North in Dexter, featured members of the Council, including president Gary Murphy and Larry Riley of Bernie; Dr. Allen Wrather, professor of plant pathology at the University of Missouri; state. Reps. Billy Pat Wright (R-Dexter) and Terry Swinger (D-Caruthersville), Stoddard County Farm Bureau president Pat Hobbs, Bill Reed of Riceland and several rice arowers.
