Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan said Thursday that the U.S. economy is "expanding at a reasonably good pace" but faces huge long-term pressure from rising deficits and ballooning costs of Medicare and Social Security. Appearing before the Senate Budget Committee, Greenspan repeated his call for Congress to reinstate rules making it harder to cut taxes or increase spending if it increased the deficit. He suggested automatic triggers scaling back spending or tax programs that exceed set limits. (Audio: Greenspan testifies)
