When Willcox, the director of a navigation district that provides irrigation water forChambers County's rice farmers, later passed on the information to Mike Wilcox, a local druggist, he furrowed his brow and said, "I think I've seen that snail." Of all places, he recalled seeing the snail - whose brown shell swirls around like the top of a Dairy Queen ice cream cone - feasting on vegetation and slithering around shallow ponds at the Chambers County Golf Course not far from Interstate 10, about 38 miles east of Houston.
