The disposal of sludge generated from latex industry had been a matter of concern mainly on account of non-availability of land for filling / disposal. Volume reduction being the key to disposal, a study was conducted to understand the digestion characteristics of the sludge from integrated latex processing units. Sludge is generated from dipped rubber units basically from the compounding area, latex tanks, coagulant tanks and waste water treatment plants. Some of the formulations are complex and isolation of pure components/compounds is difficult and hence volume reduction is a pre-requisite to facilitate sludge disposal.
