Government of India has enhanced the excise duty (cess) on rubber to Rs.2 a kg from Rs.1.50 with effect from September 1, 2011. Cess on rubber is levied on the rubber produced in the country, the proceeds of which is used for the development of natural rubber in the country. However, it is collected from the users of natural rubber and the cess amount is allowed as part of the cost element in pricing the finished rubber products.
