The new global tyre manufacturing unit of Apollo Tyres at Oragadam near Chennai, India, was formally inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin recently. Speaking on the occasion, Apollo Chairman Onkar S. Kanwar said an additional sum of around Rs 5,000 million will be invested in the new plant, taking the total outlay to Rs 21,000 million. The Chennai plant is expected to achieve its terminal capacity of 16,000 passenger vehicle tyres and 6,000 commercial vehicle tyres a day by March 2012.
