The impact of sharp fall in NR prices has begun to reflect on NR output. According to the latest figures released by the International Rubber Study Group(IRSG), the growth rate in world NR production slowed down to 1.2% from 14.0% in Q4 2013. The NR production in the first quarter of 2014 stood at 2.5 million tonnes against 3.3 million tonnes in Q4 2013. The decel- eration is mainly a reflection of the sharp slowdown in Thailand, with its NR production growth rate falling from 40.1% in Q4 2013 to 4.5% in Q1 2014. Other major NR producing countries such as India, Malaysia and Vietnam too continued to experience negative growths in their NR outputs during the quarter.

7. Commodity prices have risen sharply since 2006. This may benefit developing countries specialized on primary exports, but poverty may increase. Uruguay is a net exporter of primary products and a net importer of oil.
