French tyre maker Michelin expects to roll out the first batch of bus and truck tyres from its upcoming Chennai facility by November next year. Pete Selleck, Head of Global Truck and Tyre Business at Michelin, has told a visiting team of Indian journalists that the company is looking at manufacturing 300,000 tyres in the first phase. This will eventually be scaled up to two million units. Sellech said Michelin expects to be relatively self-sufficient by 2015 by stopping import of tyres and meeting domestic demand from local manufacturing by then.
