Edison's light bulb evolves to combine function with style. Thomas Edison's original incandescent light bulb in 1879 created an industry that continues to make technological advancements offering greater economies. For example, compact fluorescent lights can save 75 percent energy over incandescent. High-pressure sodium security lights are two to three times more efficient than mercury vapor security lights. Lighting controls, like everything else these days, are computerized and offer remote control over the Internet. Today's lighting technology is high tech and high value. One-quarter of our collective electric bill is for lighting, a total of 37 billion dollar a year. We could cut that as much as 60 percent from using lighting technology developed in the past 10 years.
