New planning tools help distribution co-ops avoid pitfalls when expanding their systems.Planning the orderly growth of an electric co-op's system while simultaneously managing its day-to-day operations goes a lot more smoothly when all the design tools come from the same family.That's been William "Doc" Docca's experience, anyway.Docca, the geographic information system (GIS) administrator at Delaware Electric Cooperative in Greenwood, Del., is less than a year into his co-op's conversion from a multivendor mix of mapping, staking, and viewing software to a single, integrated package from Futura Systems (futuragis.com).
