Industry consolidation, debate over genetically modified crops, transport development and differential tax systems are among the important issues facing South America. South America is key global oilseed supplier, accounting for almost a quarter of world oilseed production and some 30 per cent of global oilseed exports. Its two star producers are Brazil and Argentina, whose key crops are soyabeans and sunflower. Peru and Chile are major players in the world fish oil and fish meal markets, while Colombia and Ecuador rank among the world's top 10 plam oil producers. The small nation of Paraguay also happens to be the world's fifth-largest soya producing nation.
