MINING PRODUCERS ATHABASCA OIL SANDS PROJECT Marathon Oil Corporation 20 per cent interest Marathon Oil Corporation reported income for its oilsands mining segment of $19 million during the fourth quarter of 2012, down significantly from $65 million during the third quarter of the year. "Results were negatively impacted by unplanned downtime at the Scotford upgrader in the fourth quarter of 2012," the company says. "With less throughput at the upgrader, a higher percentage of lower-value products were sold, leading to lower price realizations." Marathon, which owns a non-operated minority stake in the Royal Dutch Shell plc-led project (and currently has the asset up for sale), reports synthetic crude oil realizations averaging $76.36 per barrel during the fourth quarter of 2012, compared to $81.13 during the third quarter of 2012, and $93.81 during the fourth quarter of 2011. Synthetic crude oil production at the project averaged 240,000 barrels per day during the fourth quarter of 2012, compared to 220,000 barrels per day during the fourth quarter of 2011. Marathon is projecting average production between 200,000 and 225,000 barrels per day for 2013.
