Based on the materials collected during the expedition carried out in October 1998, the qualitative and quantitative mesozooplankton composition was examined. The number of species changed from 25 to 33 at different stations; the biomass ranged within 20-109 g/m~2 of the wet weight. The flux of the autochthnous organic matter through the plankton communities calculated from the data on the structural and functional analysis was from 2 to 40 mgC/m~2 per day.
