摘要

An analysis of the calculating techniques used for forecasting sediment transport and morphological chanages on the continental shelf is performed. A classification of the temporal and spatial scales of natural phenomena that control the features of the sediment dynamics on the shelf is presented in comparison to the scales of the engineering problems. Hydrodynamical processes causing the transport of cohesive and incohesive sediments together with the dependencies used for their parametrization are assessed. Present-day possibilities of the mathematical description of the dynamics of cohesive and incohesive sediments at different intensities of interaction of the flow with the eroding bottom are discussed. Some methodical approaches to the sediment dynamics modeling are considered and the questions of applicability of numerical methods for resolving scientific and applied problems related to the economic activity on the continental shelf are assessed.
