Mesoscale heterogeneities of hydrophysical fields that possess properties of acoustic waveguides in the horizontal plane were found on the basis of experimental studies in the Northwestern Pacific.It was shown that these waveguides are comparable with the usual acoustic waveguides in the vertical plane in their main characteristics and the acoustic effects they produce:focusing,refraction,etc.
