The data are presented on the content and composition of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HC) in the water,in the particulate matter (collected with a Juday net and by separation),and in the bottom sediments of the White Sea.It was found that,during the last years,the level of the aliphatic HC concentrations in the waters of the White Sea (18 mug/1 on average) has been practically unchanged and comparable to the HC average concentrations in the shelf areas of the World Ocean.In the water and bottom sediments,the distribution of HC is determined by the discharge of the marginal filters of the rivers.Here,the sedimentation of the bulk of anthropogenic HC occurs.Because of this,the grain-size controlling factor does not operate in the zones of the depocenter of the rivers (in particular,of the Severnaya Dvina River).The same reasons,most probably,may explain the differences in the degree of the geochemical relationships between the contents of C_(org) and HC in the particulate matter and bottom sediments.After passing through the marginal filters,natural HC are dominant in all the migration forms.
