The study revealed the spatial heterogeneity in the benthos structure at the fast ice edge. A series of facies forms a conjugate system, in which a succession of bottom biocenoses and facies forming a topoloigical sequence results from the weakening of the action of a certain factor (in this case, of the intensive hydrodynamical processes near the bottom due to convection and wave activity). Macrobenthos biomass changed from 16.51 (+-)5.41 to 77.656 (+-) 23.55 g/m~2, while the density of the populations varied from 433.5(+-) 144.5 to 1545 (+-) 273.3 ind./m~2.
