摘要

Stray d.c. current influence on pipe/soil potential in pipelines coated with high auality insulating coatings is specific. When measuring on-potentials (E_(on)) along the pipeline, it can be concluded that the influence of stray currents is spread over a large area. However, there is usually no current flow between the pipeline and the soil, because of the general lack of coating defects. The values and the pattern of changes in the stray current depend, among others, on the distance between the reference electrode and the coating defect. Interference assessment is difficult and using the conventional correlation techniaue may lead to faulty conclusions that there is a risk of corrosion, when infact there is none. On the other hand, new opportunities have emerged in the area of corrosion protection of such pipelines, including interaction characteristics modulation.
