Experimental determination of saturation power in erbium-doped silica fibres

摘要

A technique to measure the saturation power of the ~(4)I_(13/2)→~(4)I_(15/2) transition in erbium-doped fibres is theoretically studied. The knowledge of this parameter allows to determine the stimulated emission coefficient of this transition. This technique is based on the non-absorbed power measurement and the transmission losses of the splices are considered. It is experimentally applied when working with an optical power whose wavelength is around 1.48 μm. The quality of the obtained results is analysed taking into account mainly the influence of the measurement errors and the influence of the amplified spontaneous emission on the energy-state populations.
