Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an exciting new technology that is much talked about and increasingly used by oral surgeons, dental implantolo-gists and other dentists. The advantages are obvious in terms of image quality and three-dimensional representation, but does its use make a difference to the clinical decision being made and the patient outcome?The review article in this issue of Oral Surgery by Keith Horner, Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging, provides an excellent summary of the contemporary evidence base for the use of CBCT in oral surgery practice.
